Manuel Antonio National Park is where we fell in love with Costa Rica. Experienced guides allowed perfect pictures of flora and fauna with fascinating detail of how the sloths, monkeys and fantastic bird and insect populations contribute to this jungle paradise. A must see!  https://manuelantoniopark.com/park-info/

Tips

Beach activities here in Costa Rica vary with surf conditions during the year.  In Peak Season December through mid April-our dry season-, the weather is mostly sunny. However, the green season-May to December has variable rain and sun and is often the best time to view wildlife. Less busy too! Bring sunscreen and bug spray always. We are near the equator.

Tricks

Surfing lessons are provided to individuals and groups of various skill levels. Ask to add your party to a small group booked for the future as an add on or fill in for a canceled client. Many times you can save. Best during shoulder season but always try! Cash is welcome colons or American dollars for a discount.

Farmers Markets~November 2021farmers market in Jaco Beach Thursday 4-10pm and Friday 7am-2pm.  Bring re useable  bags .Arts, crafts, fresh fruits veggies, breads etc. Check Google maps for location. if you wait until after 12pm on Friday, at times the vendors are happy to add to your purchase without additional cost. First choice is on Thursday. If you plan to return to a vendor, introduce yourself and greet them personally. Kindness is always good business.. Bring small bills or coins to the market for produce, meats. Artisan goods can take credit or debit cards but often prefer cash you may save as well. Tidbits

1. Payment. Whenever you book vacation rentals, there may be a discount for cash or direct deposit rather than a credit card. Ask.

2. Download an app like Googles Units Plus that provides easy conversion from your currency to colones our Costa Rican currency. Bigger stores will often post the current US vs Colones rate. Ask for a vender to give you the colons amount on their calculator as it will take a bit of time to 'hear' the amounts correctly.

3. Is Waze or Google better for travel in Costa Rica? The answer is...it depends!  Waze gives real time information on road conditions and areas around your travel route. Google seems more exact. Have them both!

Central Valley Costa Rica

Rentals near San Jose, Atenas

The Central Valley of Costa Rica just 35 minutes from Atenas Toucan Tranquility  is a long wide verdant expanse of rich agriculture land bordered by volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls and beautiful small towns filled with artisans, culture crafts.  It houses the Capital City of San Jose, the most popular airport (SJO).When exploring this vast area of museums, opera, sports and music events, festivals and parades, remember to check out the many volcanos and waterfalls of the area. One of our favorite attractions is https://waterfallgardens.com/la_paz_waterfall_gardens/ This amazing site with examples of flora and fauna, waterfalls, the amazing animals and extremely knowledgeable staff makes this a favorite among tourists and locals alike. The lunch on site is excellent as well. At times, Poas National Park https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/es/poas.html is open so try to take that in as well.  The culture of Costa Rica is typified at the Ram Luna Mirador Restaurant where traditional Costa Rica dances and food is beautifully celebrated and prepared in a breathtaking mountain view. https://www.restauranteramluna.com/en/  The Central Market in downtown San Jose is another must see. Local crafts, artisans, eateries and the bustle of a pedestrian walkway outsie to museums, street musicians, entertainment galore. Often better to park the car and take a taxi as the area is busy!https://costaricacitytour.com/san-jose-city-attractions/central-market/

Heading east though Cartago stop at the Cathedral of the Black Virgin particularly during the celebration which occurs about the second week of August.. A sight not to be missed as in Costa Rica celebrations of the patron saints whose names grace each Church are a real taste of the religion, community  and joy of festivals of celebration.
